Between sleepless nights, long commutes, and the demands of his post, Kenneth Dabalos never let go of his childhood dream. Now a board passer and future police officer in the making, he proves that resilience shines brightest in seasons of struggle and that hope can rise from the most unexpected places.

As the “ber months” arrive, the phrase “Christmas spirit” quickly becomes a common refrain.

Beyond the festive lights and the iconic Christmas songs filling the air once the calendar flips to September, it is the undeniably communal, joyful vibe that signals the start of the occasion.

During this season, it is only natural for people to find hope in their hearts, regardless of their circumstances.

The gritty grind of a security guard-turned-licensed criminologist tells a story of hope, perseverance, and courage.

Kenneth Dabalos worked at a public high school in Taguig while preparing for the board examinations. For four months, he lived a double life as a security guard and a student.

"Pinagsabay ko 'yung review sa board exam habang nagtatrabaho as security guard. Pinatunayan ko na kaya ko. Nag-take ako ng board exam at ngayon, pinalad naman ako makapasa ng board exam," he narrates to The STAR.

The July-August examination had 22,539 examinees, with only 11,121 successful passers. Among these successful takers was the twenty five-year-old criminology graduate.
