Food stamp program covers 300,000 more households

Another 300,000 food-poor households will be included in the government's Walang Gutom Program, a key antipoverty initiative of the Marcos administration, according to the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

DSWD Undersecretary Edu Punay yesterday said the additional beneficiaries would complete the 600,000 households targeted for the program this year.

“We have been serving 300,000 household-beneficiaries since last year in 10 regions and 22 provinces. The President announced in his State of the Nation Address that we will increase this (number of beneficiaries),” Punay said.

“Before the end of the year, the program will benefit 600,000 households in 12 regions and more provinces,” he added.
