FDI Inflows Down to Lowest in 6 Months

The net inflow of foreign direct investments (FDI) to the Philippines fell to $376 million in June, the lowest level in six months, as equity capital investments posted net outflows, according to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.

BSP data showed that the June tally was down by 17.8 percent from $457 million in the same month last year and marked the weakest performance since December 2024, when inflows reached $356 million.

The central bank said the decline reflected the shift in nonresidents' net equity capital placements, which swung to a $57-million outflow this year from an $85-million inflow in June 2024.

Broken down, equity placements jumped by 30.5 percent to $130 million from $99 million a year ago. But withdrawals stood at $187 million in June, 12 times higher than the $15 million in the same month last year.
