DFA urged to counter Chinese propaganda, lies

Retired Supreme Court senior associate justice Antonio Carpio urged the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to counter China's propaganda claiming Philippine territory is limited only to the islands within the 1898 Treaty of Paris.

- By PIA LEE-BRAGO

“The Chinese are again saying Philippine territory is limited to the islands within the 1898 Treaty of Paris lines. The silence from the Philippines is deafening,” Carpio said at the Manila forum on “Asymmetric Threats: Cross-Regional Strategies for Europe and the Indo-Pacific” on Sept. 18 organized by the think tank Stratbase.

He warned that “a lie repeated again and again will be perceived as true by the international community unless forcefully rebutted.”
