60 Years of PCAB: Supporting the Growth of the Construction Industry

The construction industry plays a crucial role in the development of a nation as it is responsible for establishing structures that are vital for the development of a country.

From buildings to bridges, to even the houses that serve as our shelter, the construction industry is responsible for making these structures come to life.

The industry is also an important contributor to economic activity in the Philippines. Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) showed that the construction industry contributed P1.66 trillion to the country's gross domestic product (GDP) in 2024; a 10.3 percent increase from the P1.5 trillion in the previous year. This is the highest in the industry segment for the period. But beyond economic progress, the industry has a bigger goal to fulfill: ensure public safety.

To help support the construction industry and ensure that standards are met for the public's safety, the Philippine Contractors Accreditation Board (PCAB) has been serving the industry for decades. The PCAB was established by virtue of Republic Act (R.A.) 4566 passed by Congress in 1965 and originally called the Philippine License Board for Contractors (PLBC).
