Bank Unions call nationwide strike on Jan 27

The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), representing nine major unions of bank employees and officers, has called for an All India Bank Strike on January 27, 2026, demanding government approval for the implementation of a five-day work week in the banking sector.
The strike will involve around eight lakh bank employees and officers working in public sector, private sector, foreign, regional rural and cooperative banks across the country.
The UFBU said the agitation is aimed at pressing the long-pending demand to declare all Saturdays as holidays, in line with agreements reached earlier with the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA).
