Mixed response to Bharat bandh

Move by Dalit & Adivasi groups comes after SC verdict allowing sub-classification of SCS/STS

THE nationwide strike called by Dalit and Adivasi organisations on Wednesday evoked a mixed response across the country with normal life remaining largely unaffected.

The bandh called by the National Confederation of Dalit and Adivasi Organisations (NACDAOR) comes against the backdrop of the recent Supreme Court judgment allowing the sub-classification of SC and STs.

The stir led to the disruption of both rail and road traffic in Bihar even as police resorted to a baton charge in the state capital to disperse the protestors.

The protestors also put up road blockades and disrupted the movement of vehicles near the divisional railway manager (DRM) office at Danapur in Patna. The impact of the bandh was also felt on railways as trains were halted at Buxar, Darbhanga and other railway stations.
