WHEN the BJP postponed the swearing-in ceremony of the Nayab Singh Saini government in Haryana's Panchkula to Thursday, October 17, it had more than the availability of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the event in mind.
For, the day coincides with Valmiki Jayanti. The apparent message was to poll-bound Maharashtra and Jharkhand that the party is identified with Dalit and OBC voters, who have a significant presence in both states. Saini visited a Valmiki temple in Panchkula before taking his oath of office and secrecy.
Earlier, the swearing-in ceremony was to take place on Tuesday, October 15.
