A chill breeze took over on Friday morning as visitors milled in to witness the 79th Independence Day celebrations at Fort St George.

They were greeted by men and women in crisp uniforms getting ready for the annual parade, a rehearsal for which was held on Wednesday.
Chennaiites, young and old-some dressed in tricolour, some holding national flags, and some others ready with their cameras - took their seats to watch the spectacle. In another part of the city, at ICF, the Railway Protection Force prepared for the marchpast, which was followed by several drills. Schools and colleges also took part in the celebrations in their respective institutions, with students sporting the shades of patriotism. TNIE lensmen Ashwin Prasath, P Jawahar, and P Ravikumar bring frames from across the city.
