TENSION erupted at KIIT University in Odisha after a 20-year-old Nepali student allegedly died by suicide following harassment by a fellow student. The incident on Sunday evening led to widespread protests on campus, prompting diplomatic intervention from Nepal.

Following the student's death, Nepali students at KIIT launched a protest, accusing the university of failing to act despite prior complaints from the victim. Initially, the university instructed international students from Nepal to vacate hostels, but later revoked the order after Nepal's government intervened.

Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli took to social media, stating that two officers from the Nepal Embassy in New Delhi were dispatched to Odisha to address the concerns of Nepali students.
