Nepal student's suicide sparks stir, diplomatic intervention at KIIT Univ

A 20-year-old Nepali student's suicide after allegedly being harassed by a fellow student on Sunday evening sparked tension at KIIT University and drew intervention from the government of Nepal.

The victim, a third-year B.Tech student, ended her life by hanging around 4.30 pm on Sunday when her roommates were away at the university's annual fest.

The incident caused outrage among Nepali students on campus, leading to widespread protests.

The students claimed that the victim had previously reported the harassment to the university's international relations office, but no action was taken.

They further alleged that after the incident, university authorities asked Nepali students to vacate the hostels and were dropped off at Cuttack railway station without assistance.

There are about 500 Nepali students studying at KIIT University, and this move sparked further protests.
