Attempt to kidnap minor girl triggers communal tension in Himachal town

SUNDERNAGAR town in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi district witnessed tension on Wednesday night as a 38-yearold married man of a minority community allegedly attempted to kidnap a 13-year-old schoolgirl from the other community, leading to heated arguments and a fight.
Police sources said the man had been stalking the girl for many days and on Wednesday he stopped his SUV near the house of the minor and tried to abduct her.
The family of the girl intervened, but the accused allegedly misbehaved with them, following which the locals gathered at the spot, thrashed him, painted his face black and handed him over to police.
