Withdraw circular on CIBIL statement requirement for agriculture loans: Farmers to govt

WITH rising concerns among farmers over the requirement of CIBIL statement for loan sanction by cooperative banks, farmers have urged the government to withdraw the directive.
The Confederation of Farmers' Associations has announced a consultative meeting on June 24 in Tiruchy to address the issue, warning that most ryots would be unable to obtain loans if the norm is made mandatory.
The controversy follows a circular issued on May 26 by the Registrar of Cooperative Societies in Tamil Nadu, directing cooperative banks to sanction loans only to eligible farmers based on their CIBIL statement, aligning with procedures followed by commercial banks. This has triggered widespread concern among the farming community.
