Inscription reveals presence of tax collection point along Vaigai

AN ancient stone inscription, recently identified near Sungam pallivasal along the northern banks of River Vaigai, contains writings describing the presence of a customs duty collection point in the area.
Madurai Nature Cultural Foundation coordinator Thamildhaasan and professor P Devi Arivu Selvam identified the inscription, which is 2.5 inches long and 0.5 inch wide. Pandya Nadu Centre for Historical Research secretary C Santhalingam, who deciphered the inscript
