AS widespread rains have lashed the district over the past few days, farmers in Tiruchy district who are preparing to begin Kuruvai cultivation have welcomed the rains as a boon.
In particular, farmers from the Lalgudi block, who had started Kuruvai cultivation a little earlier using borewells, expressed happiness as the rains would benefit their nurseries.
Tiruchy district received a total of 356 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 6 am on Sunday. Ponnaniyar Dam recorded the highest rainfall at 45 mm, followed by Kovilpatti with 35.4 mm, Samayapuram with 33 mm, Nanthiyar Head with 27.2 mm, and Pullambadi with 22.2 mm during the same period.
