Marine infra upgrades to help fisherfolk

THE Puducherry government has reiterated its commitment to the welfare and advancement of its fishing communities through a series of infrastructure upgrades, social support schemes and livelihood-oriented interventions.

With a clear focus on safety, sustainability and empowerment, the administration has sought to project itself as one of the most fisher-friendly in the country.

A significant boost to marine infrastructure has come in the form of an MoU with IIT-Madras for setting up an auxiliary fishing harbour at Moorthikuppam-Pudukkuppam. Officials said the proposed facility is expected to ease congestion, provide improved berthing space and operational efficiency for fishermen.
