Calls grow for underpass at Odathurai on Chennai NH

THE absence of a vehicular underpass (VUP) or subway connecting Odathurai Road to Kallanai Road across the Tiruchy-Chennai National Highway is causing significant inconvenience and safety concerns for road users.

Besides, motorists are forced to drive for a long distance to a U-turn, which wastes time and fuel. Locals said there have been minor accidents and a direct crossing in the form of a VUP or subway would ensure safety and efficient travel.

A similar underpass with a road overbridge was constructed at Kondayampettai intersection (along the north banks of the Cauvery river leading to Kallanai, a major tourist destination) on the Tiruchy-Chennai National Highway in 2021.
