Wrongfully jailed in fake drug case, woman seeks ₹72 L compensation

CHALAKUDY resident Sheela Sunny, who owned a beauty parlour in Chalakudy, has filed a petition before the Kerala High Court seeking a compensation of Rs 72 lakh from the excise department, following her wrongful arrest and 72-day imprisonment on false narcotics charges.
On February 27, 2023, Sheela was taken into custody by excise officials after they allegedly found substances resembling LSD stamps in her two-wheeler. She spent 72 days in Viyyur jail and subsequent, chemical analyses found that the seized materials were not narcotics, leading to her release following High Court intervention.
