The shutdown called by Opposition BJD observed from 6 am to 2 pm across all 12 blocks of the district
NORMAL life was hit across Balasore on Wednesday as the district unit of BJD observed an eight-hour bandh demanding justice for the 20-year-old BEd student of FM Autonomous College who died from self-immolation.
The bandh, led by senior BJD leader and former MP Rabindra Jena, was observed from 6 am to 2 pm across all 12 blocks of the district. Government and private offices, courts, banks and business establishments remained shut. Traffic was severely disrupted on NH-16 at Soro and Jaleswar besides on NH-18 at Phuladi.
BJD workers staged road blockades by burning tyres at major junctions such as FM Golei and Station Bazaar, causing inconvenience to commuters.
