Man dies after testing Covid positive, officials say death due to comorbidities

A 60-year-old man from Chengalpattu, who was admitted on May 15 to the ESI Hospital in KK Nagar, Chennai, with complaints of diarrhoea and severe dehydration due to acute gastroenteritis, later tested positive for Covid-19 and died on Tuesday.
He died while being shifted to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital after testing positive.
In a statement, Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine Dr T S Selvavinayagam said a review of medical reports showed that the cause of death was complications from chronic kidney failure, along with other existing comorbidities, and stressed that Covid was only an "accidental finding."
