The Congress on Thursday dismissed the GST Council's recent rate cuts as a partial fix and termed it "GST 1.5".
It demanded that states receive compensation for five years, with 2024-25 as the base year, citing that the reduction in rates would have an adverse effect on their revenue.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said that the complex compliance requirements of GST must also be eliminated; only then will MSMEs and small industries truly benefit.
