SUPREME Court senior advocate Aditya Sondhi said in India the military chose to keep itself out of politics with professionalism despite there being situations where it could have come in and done what exactly its counterparts have done in Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Speaking during the book talk on the book 'Poles Apart - Military and Democracy in India and Pakistan' organised by Mysore Open Forum in memory of political scientist and academician Professor Muzaffar Assadi at Kalpa Kshetra auditorium on Sunday, Sondhi said India and Pakistan has diametrically different trajectory in experimenting with democracy.

"While in Pakistan, the military overtly instrumental in undermining democratic tradition in many ways never let the country experiment successfully with democracy which still continues even today, but in India, the role of military had not quite examined with the seriousness and depth which it deserved. It is because military intervention in India is a non event," he said.
