P D Shobha urges traders not to panic upon receiving such notices

FACING criticism from traders and the public over Goods and Services Tax (GST) notices, the Commercial Tax department organised a workshop on Monday to spread awareness and clarify misconceptions related to GST.

The session aimed to explain that the department had not issued formal notices but had only sent intimations seeking clarifications regarding UPI transactions.

Inaugurating the workshop at the department office in Devaraja Mohalla, Joint Commissioner P D Shobha urged traders not to panic upon receiving such notices and instead approach the department for clarification.

"The department gathered transaction data through the UPI platform and sent notices based on this information. Much of the confusion arose due to lack of awareness about GST regulations. If traders had approached us directly, these issues could have been resolved through one-on-one discussions. Unlike in Bengaluru, where the issue led to protests, we have not seen such incidents in Mysuru," she said, adding that tax collected will be returned to the public through government welfare schemes.

"We must all be committed to paying our taxes," she emphasised.
