Stakeholders flag lack of govt support for nightlife

TOURISM stakeholders feel that the government has to lead the way and convert its promises into action on the ground if at all it is serious in promoting the night life and tapping the tourism potential of the coast which they feel is lacking at present.

Despite the successive governments making tall claims in order to cash in on the unique tourism experience of the region, most of the promises have fallen flat. For instance, the state government announced allowing business establishments to keep open till 1 am in the night in all city corporation limits sometime back which is still to happen. "Police object if they find vehicles in front of our restaurant after 11 pm. If this is the situation, then from where will people landing in the city late night through flights and trains get food," asked a staff of a hotel in Mangaluru.
