OVER 5.3 lakh households in Karnataka have been connected to Piped Natural Gas (PNG) as part of the City Gas Distribution (CGD) network, according to recent data tabled in the Lok Sabha by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. However, no data was provided on the number of connections charged so far.

- VINCENT D'SOUZA @Mangaluru

As of May 31, 2025, over 1.5 crore households have been connected to PNG across India under the CGD initiative managed by entities authorised by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB). This aligns with the ambitious Minimum Work Programme (MWP) target of 12.63 million domestic PNG connections to be achieved by 2034. Of the current national figures, more than 3.2 lakh households in government residential complexes and over 58,000 households in defence units have also been connected.
