TO boost tourism and enhance visitor experience, the state government recently sanctioned ₹10 crore for renovation works at the Pillavukkal Periyar Dam near Koomapatti in Virudhunagar, which garnered attention after videos shared by a local resident went viral on social media.
The project includes the construction of a protective fence to prevent wildlife intrusion, along with other facilities such as a gym, yoga plaza, and an aquarium park, at an estimated cost of ₹10 crore.
Established in 1980, the Pillavukkal Periyar dam park in Kansapuram village is one of the main tourist spots in the district. It has been maintained by the public works and water resources departments since its inception.
