The calamity took one life, affected 150 homes and destroyed several acres of farmland
A year after the devastating landslide that struck Vilangad on July 30, 2024, uncertainty continues to haunt many families affected by the calamity. While the disaster caused widespread destruction across more than 50 locations, the government's response has been marred by conflicting figures, unfulfilled promises, and growing frustration among survivors.
In the early hours of that fateful morning, a series of landslides—both minor and massive—swept through the region, with the most severe one originating from Adipara in Vilangad. The disaster took the life of a retired school teacher, K A Mathew Kalathungal. Though only one casualty was officially recorded, the devastation was immense, with over 150 homes initially reported to be affected and more than 150 acres of farmland destroyed.
