After the flooding caused by torrential rains and rising water level of the eastern rivers in early June, residents are now facing another round of inundation

- EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE @Alappuzha

The incessant rainfall over the past few days has once again submerged several parts of Upper Kuttanad. After a brief respite from the severe flooding caused by torrential rains and rising water level of the eastern rivers in early June, residents who had returned from relief camps are now facing another round of inundation.

Though isolated showers were recorded in the past few days, there was no significant change in water level until three days ago. When heavy rain resumed and eastern water began flowing in, the situation changed. The water level in the Pampa and Manimala has been steadily rising since then, worsening the situation.

In Thalavady panchayat, more than a foot of water entered courtyards in ward 10, submerging low-lying areas. If rain continues and water inflow from the east increases, it is feared that more houses may be flooded in the coming days.
