Protest brews as forest dept says 'no' to opening of old Aluva-Munnar road

PROTEST is looming in Mankulam following the forest department's objection in opening the old Aluva-Munnar road for public transportation.
The department had registered a case against Idukki MP Dean Kuriakose, former Kothamangalam bishop Mar George Punnakottil and Kothamangalam MLA Antony John, among 24 others, for obstructing the duty of the forest officials and damaging public property during a protest held at Pooyamkutty on March 16.
Irked by this, the local residents, led by Mankulam St Mary's Church vicar Fr George Kollamparambil, on Monday took out a torchlight protest march to Mankulam against the forest officials.
