IT was a moment that felt like "a thousand fireflies lighting up a single sky" for Banu Mushtaq as she became the first Kannada writer to win the International Booker Prize.
Her short story collection Edeya Hanate, translated into English as Heart Lamp by Deepa Bhasthi, won the title for Kannada language literature under the translated fiction category. It made Bhasthi the first Indian translator to win the prestigious award for 2025.
