After Years of Shut Down, Ktm Textiles Resumes Operations

AFTER years-long uncertainty, the Kottayam Textiles, a unit of the Kerala State Textile Corporation Ltd, resumed operations on Monday, alleviating concerns of potential layoffs.
According to officials, the preliminary steps to reactivate the machinery have begun, with production expected to start within the next 15 days. "We got our electricity connection restored last week and maintenance work on the machinery is progressing. Production will commence in a step-by-step manner," said P Sajjad Abbas, general manager of the unit.
The official added that the Textiles Corporation has already placed orders for new machinery and modern equipment as part of a modernisation initiative, using Rs8 crore sanctioned by the state government. The new machinery is expected to arrive within six months.
