Monsoon rain, accompanied by heavy wind, causes widespread damage across the district
As the monsoon advances, water levels in major rivers of the district, including Achankovil, Pampa and Maniyar, saw a significant rise, following which the shutters of Moozhiyar and Maniyar dams were opened to release the excess water.
In view of the torrential rain, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert in the district on Sunday and Monday.
According to officials, one of the three shutters of the Moozhiyar Dam, which has a total capacity of 192.63m, has been opened and maintained at 20cm to ensure safety and prevent overflow.
Similarly, the Maniyar dam, with a Full Reservoir Level (FRL) of 34.62m, has also opened its gates.
