When a dairy vendor tried to 'milk' demand for booze

AT a time when a Bevco proposal on home delivery of liquor is being debated, here is the story of a 51-year-old man who aced it. But instead of being hailed as an innovator, this Aluva milk vendor's venture landed him in handcuffs.

After being tracked by the Ernakulam rural police and caught red-handed, Sunil was arrested and later remanded to judicial custody for illegal sale of liquor.

He eventually managed to secure bail, but was sent off with a stern warning from the police: "Don't try playing too smart."

Sunil ran a modest dairy farm adjacent to his home in Edayappuram, tending to a few cows and supplying fresh milk to neighbourhoods including Keezhmad, Edayappuram, and Nature Kavala. Thanks to the purity of his products, especially the milk, he had built a strong reputation in the area.

Things, however, got murky when people started eagerly waiting for the sound of his moped horn signalling their daily delivery not just for the milk.
