A NEWLY renovated memorial and library in honour of E V Ramasamy Naicker, fondly known as Thanthai Periyar, was unveiled as a lasting tribute to the fight for equality on the grounds of Vaikom, on Thursday.
The inauguration of the refurbished memorial and library was carried out by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin in the presence of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Periyar was a key figure in the Vaikom Satyagraha movement, and the Tamil Nadu government erected a memorial for him at Vaikom Valiya Kavala to honour his legacy. The museum and library were opened with a ceremonial laying of flowers at Ramasamy Naicker's statue.
