A bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar was hearing two PILs filed by NGO Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and lawyer Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay on the issue.
While asking all the litigants to complete their pleadings in the case, the bench posted the matter for hearing in the week starting April 21. "We will take it up on a non-miscellaneous day for the final hearing. In the meanwhile, the pleadings have to be complete," the CJI said.
The petitioners -- ADR and Upadhyay -- had moved the apex court seeking a declaration that national and regional political parties are "public authorities" under the RTI Act.
