35-Year-Old Arrested for Circulating Fake Currency

A resident of the Chemnad grama panchayat was arrested and remanded by the Special Action Group Against Organised Crimes (SAGOC) for circulating counterfeit currencies.
The arrested person is Kishore, 35, of Kalanad in Chemnad grama panchayat.
Kishore mixed the fake currencies with original currency notes and placed them inside the purse kept with the irumudikettu (a travel kit of the pilgrims) of a Sabarimala pilgrim.
The incident came to light on January 7 when Vinod, a Bara resident, visited a local mobile store to repair his phone. During the transaction, he tendered four 500-rupee notes to the store owner, who, upon closer inspection, suspected the authenticity of the currency. The shop owner promptly reported the incident to the Bekal police, leading to the arrest of the suspect.
