Voronezh' radar system to be deployed in Chitradurga

INDIA is in advanced discussions with Russia to deploy the state-of-the-art 'Voronezh' radar system in Chitradurga, Karnataka.
This move can significantly enhance the country's missile defence capabilities and strengthen early-warning detection and aerospace surveillance.
According to reports, the Voronezh radar, known for its cutting-edge phased-array technology, can track up to 500 objects simultaneously within a 6,000 km horizontal range and an 8,000 km vertical range. The Russian defence sources say that the Voronezh-DM model can even detect football-sized objects from as far as 8,000 km away. Featuring a 40% reduction in energy consumption and a modular design that allows for 50% faster deployment, it is regarded as one of the world's most advanced and cost-effective radar systems.
