A recent ruling by Mumbai ITAT says NRIs are not required to pay taxes on gains from Indian MF investments
IF you are an NRI, who has invested in Indian mutual funds, it is possible that the capital gains from those investments could escape taxes completely.
Recently, the Mumbai Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) has ruled capital gains earned from Indian MF units by NRIs will not be taxed in India. Its decision is based on the India-Singapore Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA).
