A coalition of farmers, environmentalists, and concerned citizens, led by renowned environmental activist Capt Nitin Dhond and conservationist Sujit Mulgund, submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan in Belagavi on Friday, strongly opposing the proposed project to divert the Mahadayi River through the construction of dams.
The memorandum highlighted that the Karnataka Irrigation Corporation Limited is moving forward with a project involving the construction of dams on the Haltara, Kalasa, and Bhandura canals, as part of an initiative to divert the Mahadayi River. According to the representation, a large pipe manufacturing facility has already been set up near Nersa village, and land acquisition notices have been served to resident
