Cops Warned Not To Reveal Victim Identity In Sexual Harassment Cases

- EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE @ Chennai

The Madras High Court has held that the act of the passport officer insisting upon a woman, who applied for a passport, to get the signature of her estranged husband to process the application is "nothing short of male supremacism".

"The practice of insisting for permission from the husband to apply for a passport does not augur well for a society which is moving towards woman emancipation. This practice is nothing short of male supremacism," Justice N Anand Venkatesh said in a recent order while hearing a petition filed by the woman, whose application for a passport was not processed as it did not have her estranged husband's signature.
