Devarsholai residents stage stir; seek action against regular wildlife threat

DEMANDING effective action to prevent wild animal intrusion, residents of ward number 13 of Devarsholai Panchayat near Gudalur staged a protest on Sunday morning.

They blamed the Gudalur forest division officials for failing to prevent the threat posed by wildlife in human settlements.

The protesters observed a protest from 9.30am to 12pm on Sunday to draw the attention of the Gudalur forest division officials to the persistent threat.

Three elephants are frequently entering agricultural fields, damaging the coconut trees, banana trees, and arecanut trees in the last six months. Also, a tiger has killed a dozen cows in the last six months, the residents said.
