Science forum asks govt to inspect 3 wells drilled by ONGC

THE Tamil Nadu Science Forum (TNSF) on Sunday urged the state to constitute an expert committee to inspect three exploratory wells drilled for shale gas by ONGC "in violation" of a ban under the Tamil Nadu Protected Agricultural Zone Development Act.

The forum's state vice-president, V Sethuraman, placed the request citing a report, 'India's Hydrocarbon Outlook 2024-25A Report on Exploration and Production Activities' by directorate general of hydrocarbons (DGH). The report points out that ONGC had drilled shale gas exploratory wells in Periyakudi, Tiruvarur and Annavasanallur, all under Protected Agriculture Z
