Probe panel formed under ex-judge, ₹10L for families of dead

EXPRESSING deep grief over the death of many people in Karur stampede, Chief Minister M K Stalin on Saturday announced a solatium of ₹10 lakh each to the families of the deceased. He also announced that a commission of inquiry (Col), headed by retired high court Judge Aruna Jagadeesan, will be constituted to investigate the tragic incident.
The CM said 36 people (toll rose to 39 since his statement), including eight children and 16 women, lost their lives after being caught in the crowd at the political campaign rally of the TVK in Karur on Saturday.
"I was overcome with inexpressible grief and anguish. These priceless lives lost have shaken us all. I extend my deepest condolences and sympathies to the bereaved families who have suffered this irreparable loss. I have directed that all those admitted to hospital receive the best possible medical care," he added.
