CHILDREN aged below five years, who were prescribed a combination of medicines, including two common cough syrups, by doctors in Madhya Pradesh's Chhindwara district, and Rajasthan, continue to die following kidney failure.
With three more deaths, the toll has risen from six to nine in MP, while at least three other kids are battling for their lives in neighbouring Nagpur (Maharashtra).
"Since September 4, nine children have died, while 13 others are undergoing treatment in Chhindwara and Nagpur hospitals," SDM-Parasia, Shubham Kumar Yadav said on Friday. "Out of the five kids who were admitted at the Chhindwara District Hospital, one has recovered and been discharged after full recovery, while two others are on the path to recovery. Two remaining kids are still under intensive treatment. In Nagpur, out of the eight hospitalised kids, the condition of three remains highly critical, as they are currently on dialysis and ventilator support," the SDM said.
