₹4.5K crore okayed for asphalt roads along Pak border to curb smuggling

THE Centre has approved construction of 1,450 km asphalt roads along the Indo-Pak border in Rajasthan and Punjab with an estimated budget of ₹4,500 crore, in a move to improve BSF personnel's mobility and curb cross-border smuggling activities, officials said.
BSF Inspector General ML Garg said, "Rajasthan will see construction of 1,096 km of roads, while the remaining 354 km will be laid in Punjab. The project is expected to commence within a month."
The road network will be built adjacent to the zero-line fencing, covering key border districts in Rajasthan, such as Barmer, Jaisalmer, Bikaner and Sriganganagar, and several areas in Punjab.
