The Navy on Friday commissioned an indigenously built Diving Support Vessel (DSV), the first of its kind, at Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam, in the presence of Union MoS for Defence Sanjay Seth.
As per the Navy, the newly commissioned vessel will reinforce the force's strategic maritime posture across the Indian Ocean Region and enhance India's operational preparedness in the underwater domain.
The project to build two such DSVs, Nistar and Nipun, was launched in September 2022 at a cost of around ₹2,400 crore.
The vessel has been indigenously designed and constructed by Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), Visakhapatnam.
It will join the Eastern Naval Command to support deep-sea diving and submarine rescue operations. Among its leading roles are deep-sea diving and conducting rescue operations in distressed submarines.
