IN a setback to global climate cooperation, United States President Donald Trump has formally withdrawn the US from the International Solar Alliance (ISA), a flagship renewable energy initiative coled by India and France, seen as a sharp shift away from multilateral climate engagement.
The decision forms part of a sweeping move by the Trump administration to exit 66 international organizations35 nonUN bodies and 31 UN-linked entities- that it says are in conflict with US “national interests”. Alongside the ISA, the list includes major climate and environmental institutions such as the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the International Renewable Energy Agency.
