THE Supreme Court on Friday ruled that chief secretaries must appear in person before the court on November 3 in connection with the stray dogs menace case.

- SUCHITRA KALYAN MOHANTY

The court rejected Solicitor General Tushar Mehta's request for their exemption from physical appearance, stating, "Let them come." A two-judge bench headed by Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta said that there was no respect for the order of the court, asserting that the chief secretaries will have to appear physically.

"We are trying to solve the issues which should have been done by the state governments. They show no respect for our order. When we require them to come and file compliance affidavit, they just sleep over it. Then alright, Let them come, we will deal with them. They must file compliance affidavits," it remarked.
