Short circuit due to EV charging sparks Indore blaze, 8 of family killed

EIGHT members of a business family were reportedly charred to death in a massive blaze at their triple-storey house in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore early Wednesday.

The inferno was caused primarily due to an electric short circuit during the charging of an electric vehicle outside the house in the Brijeshwari Enclave Colony area between 3.30 am and 4 am and fuelled further due to an explosion in multiple LPG gas cylinders kept in the house.

While the official death toll is seven, reports from Indore put the toll at eight, which included a 12-year-old girl and two other women. The deceased, who hailed from the Pugalia business family, and also included their close relatives, are aged between 12 and 65.
