SC vacation bench set to hear plea against three new criminal laws today

THE supreme Court’s vacation bench is scheduled to hear a Public interest litigation filed by lawyer Vishal Tiwari, challenging the enactment of three new criminal laws that seek to overhaul india’s existing criminal laws, on Monday.
According to the top court’s causelist, the vacation bench led by Justice Bela M Trivedi and also comprising Justice Pankaj Mithal would hear the matter on May 20.
The lok sabha had, on December 21 last year, passed three key legislations, namely Bharatiya Nyaya (second) sanhita (BNs), the Bharatiya Nagarik suraksha ( s e c o n d ) s a n h i t a (BNss) and the Bharatiya sakshya (second) Act (BsA). President Droupadi Murmu had gave her assent to the Bills on December 25.
